Sean Oliver
Project Manager

As Project Manager, Sean
works in a multitude of capacities for LCW, from
office manager responsibilities to coordinate
aspects of training, translation, and coaching.
His strongest skill sets are organization,
planning, and creative thinking. He brings a
wealth of experience from his educational
background in Anthropology, his diverse work
history, and his personal experience and travels
which include Costa Rica, France, Italy,
Germany, Switzerland, Austria, Canada, Mexico,
Cuba, Puerto Rico, Chile, and most of the
continental United States.
As the son of two college
professors of Political Science and Western
Languages (who were both, in turn, raised on
farms), Sean had a unique opportunity to
experience and explore the nuances of culture
and class from a young age. His family lived
abroad during sabbaticals, and he and his
brother attended school for a semester in Costa
Rica. His family hosted over 22 foreign exchange
students over the years; mostly through AFS (The
American Field Service).
Sean obtained a BA in
Anthropology with an Archaeological focus from
Beloit College. In addition to cultural
pursuits, he designed his own minor in Sex and
Gender Studies, and studied conversational
Spanish. In his second year, he studied abroad
in Pisagua, Chile on an Archaeological Field
School, where the team excavated several
dwellings and grave sites, and took samples from
a shell midden estimated to be over 8,000 years
old. Immediately following graduation, he moved
to mountain California and obtained employment
with Far Western Anthropological Research Group
(Davis, CA) as a Field Technician at the Sonora
site (Sonora, CA), working closely with local
Mewok and Shumash American Indians to ensure
compliance with NAGPRA and other federal
repatriation laws.
After becoming homesick
for the Midwest, and moving to Chicago, he spent
4 years with Countrywide Home Loans as a
Operations Manager where he developed his IT and
human management skills. After leaving
Countrywide, he spent 6 months working for
Knowledge Points tutoring service, working with
youth in and around Humboldt Park, Chicago. Due
in large part to its close ties to Beloit
College, he has performed volunteer work with
the Latino Union of Chicago, and various
initiatives to provide legal and other
assistance for new immigrants. Sean has been
with LCW since May of 2008, and continues to
expand his repertoire and expertise in all areas
of the organization.
